Insulation removal
Most roof cavity cleaning is undertaken by the householder to remove old insulation from the roof space and update it with new insulation, usually batts. Often 'blow in' insulation is removed due to its disintegration and also due to health and safety concerns. Loose insulation can, as it disintegrates, filter into the living space and cause concerns for those with respiratory or allergy issues. Also, insulation and down lights have caused many house fires in Australia and they need to be separated. It is easier and safer to have batts and downlights sharing the same roof space.
Older batts also start to break down and eventually require replacing in order to maintain properly working insulation. Modern batts have higher thermal qualities than older batts, and the insulation is far more effective.
An added benefit of removing old insulation is all the dust, rats nests and other debris that gets removed with the insulation.
